Media Filtration

Complete media sets for pressure sand filters, multi-grade and dual-media filters.

The problem

Suspended solids and turbidity in raw water damage downstream equipment, foul RO membranes and push treated water out of specification. Media filters are the workhorse first stage of almost every industrial water treatment plant — but they only perform when the bed is built from correctly graded media.

What the treatment needs

A media filter needs matched layers: coarse support gravel and pebbles at the bottom, graded filter sand above, and — in dual-media designs — anthracite on top. Each layer must meet the size and uniformity called for in the filter design, and the media must be hard, clean and low in fines.

Typical industries

  • Power plants
  • Steel plants
  • Refineries
  • Water treatment OEMs & EPC contractors
  • Municipal & infrastructure projects

Practical considerations

• Media should be replaced or topped up when bed depth drops or filtrate quality deteriorates.

• Support layers matter as much as the filtration layer — wrongly graded gravel lets media escape into the underdrain.

• For new filters, order media against the designer’s specification; for existing filters, match the original media grades.
